10 Types of Bacterial Skin Infections

Bacterial skin infections are manifold and do cause much bodily discomfort. People are exposed to several types of them, each having its own impact on the body system.

Bacterial skin infections do exist and can be contracted rather easily. They spread from one person to another, from the contact of skin or surfaces. One does get exposed to them so it is better to be aware of them. Skin infections, sinusitis can cause much discomfort.

1. Folliculitis

Folliculitis happens to be an infection that does involve damage to the hair follicles and the surrounding tissue, thus causing inflammation to the skin (much like infected red spots). It is caused by the staphylococcus bacteria.

2. Furuncles

Furuncles are considered to be larger than the infections from the folliculitis and do appear more like boils. They are also caused by the staphylococcus bacteria, and can also appear alone or in groups of boils. These are more commonly found on elderly individuals or on people with diabetes (or an immune disorder). These abscesses are usually found on the face as well as neck or in the pits of the underarms but can be found anywhere on the body.

3.Erysipelas

This sort of skin infection is usually seen on the legs as well as the face of the body. Children, as well as the elderly, are most prone to this disease. Also affected are individuals who suffer from alcohol addictions, those with chronic diseases or those people suffering from trauma. Skin infections, sinusitis need to be treated properly.

4. Cellulitis

Cellulitis happens to be a much deeper form of erysipelas, that is usually found on the face or limbs. It is normally caused by an open sore or wound and also by the following three bacteria: staphylococcus aureus, group A B – hemolytic streptococcus and streptococcus pneumonia.

5. Impetigo

This bacterial skin infection is often found on those children living in undesirable conditions or in adults who have experienced a bad virus or respiratory infection. It is much similar to cellulitis, but only affects the upper layers of the skin. Also, it may crop up like a small red blister, occasionally with pus. It may attack anywhere where there happens to be broken skin. At times, the sore will crust over.

6. Ecthyma

Ecthyma is often referred to as “deep impetigo,” as it is an infection that is like impetigo, but in a deeper form. It is usually derived from the streptococcus bacteria, but may also be from the staphylococcus bacteria. This infection does appear much like impetigo, but also spreads deeper into the skin. Ecthyma can also be found anywhere on the body but is normally found on the legs. These ulcers are usually a complication from an infestation.

7. Pitted Keratolysis

This bacterial skin infection does usually affects the soles of the feet and the toes and gives an unpleasant odor. Sweaty feet attract this type of skin bacteria, and it is common in athletes and people who wear boots for long periods of time.

8. Trichomycosis

Trichomycosis is found in the sweat gland areas, such as the pubic or armpit areas, that are caused by the hair shafts. This skin infection is due to a corynebacterium, which does result in small nodules that produce odors similar to armpit sweat.

9. Ringworm

This red-colored form of fungal skin infection does appear as a circle on the skin. The fungi “dermatophytes” do feed on the outer layer of the skin, nails and the hair. This type of bacteria does thrive in areas that are moist such as in tanning beds or locker rooms, and can also be found on pets. Pets that suffer from bald spots may have this type of fungus, and people need to id touching these spots.

10. Candidiasis

Candidiasis, commonly known as a “yeast infection”, may cause itching as well as burning around the vaginal area. It can also occur in the digestive system. Persons with low immune systems often contract candidiasis. Eating yogurt may be a simple solution for boosting the immune system and getting rid of the body of this irritating bacterial skin infection.

Skin infections, sinusitis as is shown can cause many health issues.
