Gouty arthritis or Gout is the result of the disposition of uric acid crystals on the joints because of high levels of uric acid in the blood. It causes extreme pain and warmth over the joints area when the crystals become deposited in the soft tissues surrounding the joint. The pain could be felt on the toes and knees. The pain is often intense for the first three days and then it will subside after five or seven days.
The pain must be immediately attended to because if the inflammation becomes severe, the gout can cause damage on the affected joints. Worse, there is a tendency that the deposited crystals may damage the kidneys due to the formation of uric acid stones.
Most often than not, gout is due to slow excretion. Thus, dietary restrictions are advised to avoid suffering from gout.
Medical research has shown that males are more prone to gout than females. It is thus advised that they refrain from eating foods with high protein content like meat and internal organs of animals and in drinking alcoholic drinks. On the other hand, moderate consumption should be made when it comes to peanuts and beans. String beans and tomatoes should also be avoided.
