According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in six people between the ages of 14 and 49 in the United States have genital herpes.
This type of infection can affect anyone, but women are at a higher risk than men. Having multiple sexual partners further raises the risk of this infection.
Some common symptoms of genital herpes include pain, itching, small red bumps or tiny white blisters, sores in the genital area and painful urination. Other symptoms may include headaches, body aches, and fever.
However, some people have genital herpes without any signs or symptoms.
The infectious virus spreads mainly through sexual contact. After the initial infection, the virus can remain dormant in the body and can reactivate after a while.
In fact, signs and symptoms may recur, from time to time, for years. Recurrences are generally less painful than the initial epidemic, and wounds generally heal more quickly.
Although there is no cure for genital herpes, many home remedies can alleviate the symptoms and reduce the risk of infecting others.

1. Olive Oil
Olive oil is known to moisturize the skin. It is rich in anti-oxidants and is one of the best home remedies for herpes sores. Take a cup of olive oil.
Heat in a pot and add lavender oil and beeswax. Allow the mixture to cool. After cooling, apply the mixture to the infected area.
2. Echinacea
Echinacea is one of the medicinal plants & has anti-viral qualities. It is well known to enhance the immune system.
All parts of the Echinacea plant, namely flowers, leaves and roots can be used to cure herpes. It can be consumed in the form of tea, juice or pills.
3. Ice Pack
The simplest method at home to cure herpes is ice. Ice provides immense relief in the pain of herpes. Take ice and crush them. Fill the crushed ice in a plastic bag.
Wrap the plastic bag in a thick cloth. Place it on the wounds for 10-15 minutes to get rid of the swelling and itching. Repeat the method for several times in a day.
Note – Long exposure of the genitals to ice can damage tissue.
4. Baking Soda
Baking soda is an effective treatment to get rid of herpes quickly. It relieves itching and painful sores.
Take a cotton ball and moist in the baking soda. Apply directly to the infected area. It helps to dry out the oozing bubbles.
Note: To avoid contamination, do not soak the cotton ball in the baking soda.
5. Tea Tree Oil
To cure herpes eruption, tea tree oil is a useful remedy. Take some water in a glass. Add a few drops of tea tree oil and gargle to remove the ulcers from the mouth.
For genital herpes, use a dropper to put drops on the infected area.
6. Lemon Balm
Lemon balm is one of the most efficient herbal remedies for genital herpes. It has phenolic acid, flavonoids, & rosmarinic acid, that aids to heal wounds or blisters.
Prepare a lemon tea. Let it penetrate for a while. Then, dip a cotton ball into it and apply directly to the sores.
Add 2-3 ml of lemon balm stain to the water. Mix thoroughly and drink. This alcohol-based liquid extract is effective for wounds. Drink the solution three times a day.
Lemon balm is also available in the form of creams and ointments. Apply the cream directly to cure herpes.
7. Licorice Roots
Licorice roots consist of therapeutic properties, which are useful for the treatment of herpes infection.
Licorice has glycyrrhizic acid, which fights the herpes virus. For the treatment of herpes, licorice root extracts can be effective.
Alternatively, intake 2 capsules of licorice root extracts.
Note- Excessive use of licorice can result in hypertension and decreased potassium. Thus, people suffering from heart problems and pregnant women should avoid intake of licorice.
8. Tea Bags
Black tea is very rich in tannin. It is known for anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.
Prepare a cup of black tea using the tea bag. Let cool.
After cooling, apply the tea bag to the infected area.
Leave it on for 5 minutes on the wounds. For best results, repeat the process twice or three times a day.
9. Cornstarch
One of the best remedies for herpes is cornstarch. Cornstarch helps to absorb excessive moisture from the skin. It helps to reduce friction and itching.
To dry herpes, apply cornstarch directly to the infected area. Take a cotton ball and soak in the cornstarch. Dab gently on the wounds.
Note: To avoid contamination, do not put the used cotton ball back into the clean cornstarch.
10. Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera is the best home remedy with its healing qualities. It can be powerful for herpes ampulla. To relieve itching and redness, pure aloe vera gel should be used on wounds.
Otherwise, take a fresh leaf of aloe vera. Cut it into two halves. Apply one of the gelled parts directly to the infected area.
11. Epsom Salt
Bathing with salt water Epsom is the best remedy to soothe the itching and pain in herpes.
Add a little Epsom salt in hot bath water. Take a bath of it. This remedy makes the wounds dry, thus reducing the itching.
You can also add salt to the bathtub. Soak the infected herpes area in the water. Allow drying then take a shower.
12. Black Coffee
The herpes virus infects not only the genitals but also the lips, mouth, etc. Black coffee is one of the best remedies to treat them. The ampoules in the mouth cause severe pain.
To treat them quickly, you must prepare black coffee. Allow to cool and take a sip. Keep it in your mouth for a while. Move it over the lips as well. For best results, repeat the process twice a day.
